Nick's college career began at San Diego State where he played quarterback. Nick started two games for the Aztecs, completing 13 of 38 passes for 147 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown during his freshman season after moving to fullback. As a senior, Nick caught 15 for his first touchdown and 103 yards, and as a junior he caught 15 passes for 137 yards.
Nick was the primary blocker for two different 2,000-yard rushers Rashaad Penny and Donnel Pumphrey in the years that followed. In 2016 and 2017 both of those running backs were also the leading rushers in college football.
In the seventh round (237th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft, Nick was selected by the Detroit Lions. It was revealed on June 6, 2018, that Nick suffered a torn ACL in organized team activities and was ruled out for the 2018 season. On July 24, 2018, Nick was placed on injured reserve. Nick was placed on injured reserve on November 20, 2019. Nick was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury on August 31, 2020. On June 3, 2021, Nick was waived.
The New York Jets signed Nick to their practice squad on September 23, 2021. On November 24, 2021, Nick was promoted to the active roster. The Jets re-signed Nick on March 13, 2022. On August 30, 2022, Nick was placed on injured reserve. The Jets re-signed Nick on March 22, 2023.
