Matt Howerton is an American journalist currently working as a general reporter for WFAA News, the ABC Affiliate. In addition, he comes to ABC from KOAT in Albuquerque where he also served as a Reporter.
Prior to joining KOAT, he worked in Waco, TX, where he was an Emmy Award-winning reporter on KWTX-TV. It was the first on the ground to cover the tragic explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, TX that claimed the lives of 15 people and covered the story for weeks as the community struggled to recover. In addition, he did an internship at WABC-TV in New York in 2012. He was also a co-producer on a research team that returned thousands of dollars in consumer compensation.
Matt’s report on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice recently earned him an Emmy nomination after he featured female inmates who make thousands of Braille pages for blind Texas students each year. His job in a horrific bus accident in 2013 earned him the first spot on Spot News from the Texas Associated Press.
