Terrell played in 11 games for the Crimson Tide, making 11 tackles with a sack as a freshman. In the first game of his sophomore season against Florida State, Terrell tore a ligament and missed the next ten games. Lewis returned for the final game of the regular season against Auburn and played in the postseason, making his first career start in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship. Lewis finished the season with one sack and 16 total tackles. Heading into his junior season, he tore his ACL in summer training camp and was forced to use a medical redshirt.

Terrell was named to the Butkus Award Watch List and entered his redshirt junior season as the starting outside linebacker for Alabama. Lewis was named second-team All-Southeastern Conference and finished the season with a fumble recovery, two pass breakups, 31 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and 16 quarterback hurries. Lewis decided not to play in the Citrus Bowl and opted to enter the 2020 NFL Draft, forgoing his final year of NCAA eligibility. Terrell finished his college career with three passes defensed, eight sacks, 58 tackles (14.5 for loss) and one forced fumble in 26 games.

In the third round with the 84th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Terrell was selected by the Los Angeles Rams. On July 31, 2020, Terrell was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list by the team.
