Jaylen Johnson is an American professional basketball player for the Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association. Additionally, he played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils. In 2020, he was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the best small forwards.
For the first two years of high school, he played basketball for Sun Prairie High School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Later, he transferred to Nicolet High School in Glendale, Wisconsin. He helped lead Nicolet to Division 2 State Championship. He then went on to be named the Associated Press Wisconsin Player of the Year.
In addition, he was the highest-rated player after Duke’s team entered the season ranked in the top 10. He had 19 points and 19 rebounds against Coppin State in his first game. In 2020, Johnson won ACC Freshman of the week honors. Later, on January 26, 2021, he had 18 points and 6 rebounds in a 75–68 win over Georgia Tech.
Johnson was selected by Atlanta Hawks with the 20th pick in the 2021 NBA draft on July 29, 2021. He signed with the Hawks on August 4, 2021. Jalen was assigned to the Hawk’s NBA G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, for the start of the G League season. He then underwent non-surgical left knee surgery after the season ended.
