The Fifty Shades trilogy made big money for actors Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Despite the mixed reviews the film might have received, it was a box office hit and helped boost the stars’ careers.
However, there were a few scenes in the movie that weren’t exactly easy for the actors. And for Johnson, there was one intimate moment that stood out as the most uncomfortable of the entire trilogy.
Dakota Johnson doesn’t regret her role in ‘Fifty Shades’
Johnson was beyond grateful to land the role of Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades franchise. For her, the films at their core are romantic stories, which explains their huge fan base.
“I really get it,” Johnson told Entertainment Weekly. “I think it’s an amazing love story and that’s why it touched so many people. Erica (EL James) did a really good job of explaining how it can happen sometimes and you have this chemical attraction to someone. Adding the sx makes it perfect. Sometimes you feel a little naughty and that’s okay.
Still, even Johnson had doubts when she initially accepted the role. So much so that she sought the support of longtime friend Emily Blunt.
“I couldn’t talk to anyone about it. Nobody in my family knew that,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “I was cast [and] I remember talking to Emily Blunt, and I was like, ‘Should I do this trilogy? Because I want to have a really special career, and I want to do a certain kind of film. And I know that will change things. She was like, ‘F****** do it if it’s okay. Just do it. Always do what you want to do.
It’s a decision The Hollywood Reporter said Johnson hasn’t regretted.
“I feel like I haven’t been cataloged in anything [because of the role],” she said. “I guess I could have gone in a certain direction, but that’s just not what I was interested in.”

Given the subject matter, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan have been subjected to plenty of uncomfortable scenes in the franchise. And it hasn’t gotten better for Johnson over time.
“No, it’s never easy,” Johnson told Marie Claire. “It’s not casual and it’s not fun. It has never been easy.
But perhaps the toughest scene in the entire trilogy was in the franchise’s final film, Fifty Shades Freed. In the scene, Johnson had very limited freedom, while having his sight removed. The extremes of the scene left Johnson in a particularly vulnerable state that surprised her.
“The hardest by far – I think in all three movies – was an sx scene in the third movie where I was handcuffed with my arms and legs to the door,” Johnson revealed. “It’s like a fence collapsing. And I was blindfolded.
For Johnson, no amount of preparation could have helped him deal with the take.
“And that was kind of shocking, because I didn’t realize that no matter how prepared or rehearsed I was, when your senses are taken away like that, you can’t control how your nervous system goes. react,” she explained. “So it was really difficult to navigate that scene. It was a bit difficult.

Along with the uncomfortable intimacy scenes, the Suspiria star found herself having to wear clothes in a way she never had before. In particular, the young actor should superglue flip flops to his body.
“It’s not glue, but it’s sticky. They are, like, basically, if it were a nipple pass, but underwear. But it’s only sticky at the top, it’s not sticky all the way,” Johnson explained. “It would also come off because the adhesive would wear off, so they’d stick it on my body so it wouldn’t fall off. And I’d wear two. It’s not painful, I mean, it’s hardly anything. But I guess you feel like you’re covered. It’s fucking weird.
