Meghan and Harry find themselves nursing emotional wounds after a snub, with a PR expert suggesting the couple may be reeling from their Netflix documentary which failed to secure an Emmy despite its large audience. The eye-opening documentary, watched by millions and racking up 81.6 billion hours watched on Netflix, surprisingly received no nominations for the prestigious award this year. This year, like last, the couple opted to forgo the glamorous Hollywood event, and their documentary missed out on any nominations. Despite impressive viewership and record-breaking debuts, the couple received no accolades.
PR expert Lin Karat said this turn of events could have left Meghan and Harry somewhat hurt, given the popularity of the documentary. Karat noted that the Sussexes faced tough competition for the nominations, pointing out that this was not the first time they had suffered a snub. The expert pointed out that the 2021 Oprah Winfrey Interview, while nominated in the Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special category, did not get a nomination for Harry and Meghan personally. This is not unfamiliar territory for Meghan, who, during her seven seasons on “Suits,” never received an Emmy or Golden Globe Award nomination. Despite a 2018 nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, she did not make the final cut.
Karat suggested that recognition from the documentary would likely mean more to Meghan than Harry, as gaining such recognition fits with one of her ambitions. Looking ahead, the expert predicts that the couple will now focus on securing Producer Award nominations. Productions such as their upcoming film, “Meet Me at the Lake,” in collaboration with Netflix through their production company Archewell Productions, could play a pivotal role in this quest. Bestselling author Kaye Fortune confirmed her excitement about working with the couple on the film adaptation, saying: “Will and Fern's love story is close to my heart, and I can't imagine a more perfect partnership.”
