Biography of Howard Eskin
Howard Eskin is an American sportscaster at WTXF-TV Fox 29 based in Philadelphia, sports radio personality for WIP-FM 94.1/WTEL AM 610 and father of Brett Spike Eskin, Vice President of Programming at WFAN New York.
Eskin not only hosted the station’s original sports show on 610 WIP in 1986, but was also the first show on the air when the station moved to 94.1FM in 2011. He probably has more than any other sports talker in the country, having broadcast approx. 7,000 shows in WIP. In addition to co-hosting the station’s Eagles pre-game shows and serving as a sideline reporter for the Philadelphia Eagles radio broadcasts, Eskin also hosts the station’s flagship Saturday morning talk show and appears regularly on the air throughout the week. The crowning experience of Eskin’s illustrious sports broadcasting career was walking off the field during the Eagles’ historic 2018 Super Bowl victory.
Eskin, who has covered more sports stories than any other broadcaster in the Philadelphia market, has been called the market’s “hardest working sportscaster” by local media for his constant hustle on the job. He has excelled as a media personality throughout his career, in addition to his mainstream radio presence. In 1982, when he joined CBS 3 as a sports anchor, he made the transition from radio to television for the first time (KYW-TV). True to tradition, Eskin broke a huge story less than four months into his television career. He claimed that Eagles owner Leonard Tose planned to sell and then relocate the team. One of his bosses at KYW even claims the sportscaster is responsible for keeping the Eagles in Philadelphia. “Leonard Tose would have smuggled the Eagles out of town if Howard hadn’t stepped in when he did,” claims Frank Traynor.
In 1986, Eskin was part of the original anchor crew for Fox29’s (WTXF-TV) Ten O’Clock News. Additionally, in 1992 he returned to KYW-TV. Additionally, in 1996, he moved to WCAU-TV, where he anchored Sports Final, the station’s Sunday night sports show. In 2012 he returned to FOX29 as a host and continues to do so during the football season. Eskin has also contributed to NBC’s George Michael Sports Machine and co-hosts a national radio show called Let’s Talk Sports. He has also written a column for the Philadelphia Daily News and been interviewed about his thoughts on NBC’s Today Show and PBS’s MacNeil Lehrer Newshour.
Additionally, he is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Northeast High School. He is honored on the school’s Wall of Fame. Eskin has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities such as The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, The Terri Lynne Lykoff Child Care Foundation, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Eskin was elected to the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. He won the prestigious March of Dimes Lifetime Achievement Award in Radio in 2010. Eskin was honored by the Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2014, he was inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in Philadelphia.
