Charlie Heaton is an English actor and musician famous for his role as Jonathan Byers in the Netflix science fiction series Stranger Things. He is also known for his roles in films such as As You Are (2016), Marrowbone, The New Mutants, No Future (2020) and The Souvenir Part II (2021).
Before acting, he played in a number of London-based bands. After a while, he joined the noise-rock band Comanechi as a drummer. While there, the band released an album in 2013 and toured for a year and a half. After leaving noise-rock, he joined the London-based psychedelic band Half Loon.
Despite being a professional actor, Heaton has no formal training. He began his career working in extras and commercial agencies to supplement his income as a musician and bartender. He share in the ITV crime series DCI Banks and Vera and then guest-starred in Casualty.
In his first feature film role, he appeared in the 2016 thriller Shut In. The film went into production in early 2015. He was cast in Stranger Things in 2016. In 2017, he had a lead role in Marrowbone. Later in May of that year, he was cast as Samuel in The New Mutants. Recently, he starred opposite Catherine Keer in the 2021 film No Future.
