He spent a lot of time surfing the California coast during those years, from Oregon to Mexico, and developed a knack for predicting waves and weather. This ethos led Martin back to college where he attended San Francisco State studying Atmospheric Science for three years of graduate school.
At the time, KTVU did not have a weather affiliate, so he was given the responsibility of forming and building KTVU’s weather brand, working weekends until he became chief meteorologist.
After more than 25 years of weather forecasting in the Bay Area, in 2014, he became one of six meteorologists in the country selected to be interviewed by President Obama on climate change at the White House.
He has received the CBM (Certified Broadcast Meteorologist) which is the highest level of certification available and one of only a few meteorologists on the West Coast.
