Stephen currently hosts HARDtalk, a current affairs interview program shown on both the BBC News Channel and BBC World News. While still hosting the show, Stephen was named “International Television Personality of the Year” by the Association of International Broadcasters in 2010.

Later that year, he was nominated for “Speech Broadcaster of the Year” at the Sony Radio Awards. On the show, Stephen interviewed many prominent international figures, including President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil, President Shimon Peres of Israel, Prime Minister of Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad, President Jalal Talabani of Iraq, US Vice President Al Gore and former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, among others.

He has been a BBC television presenter since 2005, presenting HARDtalk. Initially, he joined the network as a trainee. Four years later, he was hired as one of her foreign affairs correspondents and began reporting on Czechoslovakia’s Velvet Revolution.

He was based in Cairo and Egypt for three years before moving to Jerusalem from 1995 to 1997. He covered the death of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, the 2000 United States presidential election, the Gulf War and eight weeks with the British Army.
