Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have claimed they got caught up in a harrowing car chase with aggressive paparazzi, which they describe as a “catastrophic” incident.
This incident happened on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were returning from an event.
Contrary to their account, recent reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan intentionally walked out in front of photographers, much to the dismay of their security team.
According to Page Six, the couple’s security detail was headed by a former member of Barack Obama’s Secret Service, known for his expertise in quietly extracting celebrities from high-profile situations.
However, this Tuesday evening, Prince Harry and Meghan, accompanied by Chris Sanchez, an esteemed former Secret Service agent, decided to deviate from their usual approach. They chose to exit the Ziegfeld Ballroom from the back, around 10 p.m., as they wanted to provide waiting photographers with the opportunity to capture their images.
A source close to the Sussexes revealed to the outlet that the couple voluntarily provided the snaps to photographers as they left the event. The problem arose when they were pursued relentlessly from then on.
The source said: “Harry and Meghan were ready to give everyone these shots when they left the event, that was not the point, but they were followed from that point on.”
Their representative, Ashley Hansen, told The New York Times on Friday that the resulting footage captured during the incident was considered “some of the most beautiful images of the evening.”
Nevertheless, the couple did not stop posing for photographers. The photographs depict an initially smiling Prince Harry holding his wife by the hand, but his expression later changes to a scowl.
In the end, a large group of security personnel intervened, preventing photographers from capturing any further footage as Prince Harry and Meghan got into their waiting SUV.
