Biography of Pete Grigsby
Pete Grigsby is an American meteorologist who has worked for KMBC 9 News since 1990. Grigsby is part of the KMBC 9 First Alert Weather team with 30 years of forecasting experience and has been forecasting Kansas City for the past 20 years. He has worked as a meteorologist in Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky in the past.
Grisby changed careers after nearly ten years at KMBC to serve better family hours by accepting a job as an administrator at Blue Springs School District. For Blue Springs High Schools, he runs a television station (BSSD-TV) and a radio station (BSSD-FM).
He also teaches students meteorology and broadcasting. Pete continues to work part-time at KMBC, especially in severe weather.
Pete was an all-state basketball player in high school, scoring more than 2,000 points. He turned down offers to play college basketball at Auburn (coached by Sonny Smith and Charles Barkley), BYU and other schools to focus his studies on journalism and meteorology.
Grisby holds a degree in show journalism from Brigham Young University as well as a master’s degree in meteorology from University of West Kentucky. Both American Meteorological Society and National Meteorological Association they gave him the “Seal of Approval”.
Pete has two children, Nyla and Pete IV, with his wife Michelle. In addition to spending quality time with his family, he enjoys running, playing the piano, and serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
