Before Kylie Jenner revealed her daughter’s name was Stormi, the internet was swarming with theories. The overriding one, for some reason, was that Jenner named her baby Butterfly or something next to the butterfly family. To be fair, there was some supporting evidence: On the outside, at least, it looked like Jenner was obsessed with winged insects. Stormi’s nursery is covered in butterfly decorations; Jenner herself frequently wears jewelry covered in butterflies; and she and Stormi’s dad, Travis Scott, have matching butterfly tattoos. Add to that the fact that Scott has a song called “The Butterfly Effect,” and you have a pretty airtight theory, well, by Twitter standards, at least.
But that was not the case at all. Fans couldn’t have been further from baby Jenner’s real name, and if they had dug a little deeper, they would have realized that Butterfly was never a real possibility in the first place. This video from Jenner’s E! reality show, Life of Kylie, proves it. In it, the 20-year-old makeup mogul reveals she’s desperately afraid of butterflies.
“I’m terrified — terrified — of butterflies. All butterflies,” Jenner says in the clip, in which she and her friends visit what looks like a butterfly garden. Jenner’s pals are clearly having fun at this exhibit, but she isn’t having it, squirming and freaking out every time a butterfly comes within range of her. “That’s how I think of them: clip the wings, and if you just look at their body, they’re not that pretty.”
There’s no way Jenner named her daughter after something she’s scared of, people! Think about it: if we had discovered this video sooner, we would have saved ourselves hours of frustrating speculation.
