Biography of Leon Bibb
Leon Bibb is an American journalist currently working as a news anchor and commentator for WKYC in Cleveland, Ohio since joining the station in 2018. Bibb was once a member of the BGSU Board of Trustees and was the first African-American anchor primetime Ohio news.

At the age of one, his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he grew up and graduated from Glenville High School. Bibb received his bachelor's degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University in 1966. He then went on to study radio, television and film as a graduate student. He also served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star.

During his career, he has regularly covered stories throughout Ohio. He has also covered many national stories such as the Persian Gulf War. In 2011, he interviewed President Barack Obama in a one-on-one conversation. The conversation took place at the White House. In addition, he interviewed President George HW Bush.
In the late 1960s, Bibb was a reporter for The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio, and later was hired by WTOL-TV in Toledo, Ohio in 1971 as a reporter. From 1972 to 1979, Leon worked as a news anchor and reporter for WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio from 1972 to 1979. At WCMH-TV, he became Ohio's first African American anchor.
He then moved to WKYC-TV, an NBC affiliate in Cleveland, and was promoted to lead news anchor for its Monday through Friday newscasts in 1986. In 1995, Bibb was hired as a news anchor and reporter for WEWS-TV5 , the ABC affiliate station in Cleveland. In addition, Bibb has narrated and hosted many shows on the station, including My Ohio with Leon Bibb, Leon Bibb's Perspective, Kaleidoscope, and a series called Our Hometown. At WEWS-TV5, Leon worked for approximately 22 years.
In addition, Bibb has interviewed many political leaders and notables, including President Barack Obama, President George H.W. Bush, Neil Armstrong, and James Earl Ray. Similarly, he also interviewed the convicted murderer of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and has written many short stories and poems, many of which have been published. Bibb retired from the anchor desk on August 1, 2017, but returned to WKYC-TV on August 6, 2018, to become a commentator and special reporter.

Bibb has won six local Emmy Awards and received several citations from the Cleveland Press Club for excellence in journalism. He has also received the Distinguished Journalist Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. In addition to his list, Leon won Awards of Excellence from Cleveland State University and the Radio-TV Council. He also received the Lower Great Lakes Emmy Awards -Gold Circle Award (50 years in television). However, Bibb is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha and Sigma Pi Phi fraternities.
Additionally, Bibb has been inducted into the Broadcaster's Hall of Fame, the Glenville High School Hall of Fame and the Bowling Green State School of Communications University Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Associated Press Ohio Broadcasters Hall of Fame, the Sigma Delta Chi Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Governor George Voinovich appointed Bibb to the Bowling Green State University Board of Trustees, where he also served as chairman in 1996.
