Kate’s Return to Public Duties?

Princess Kate’s parents, Carol Middleton and Michael Middleton, have returned to Wimbledon for their second appearance in a week, as speculation continues over Queen Elizabeth’s potential return to public duties. The couple joined their daughter, who was teaching at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on her tenth day of competition.

Known for their regular presence at the event, Carol and Michael had already made their debut this year at the July 4 contest. The July 10 quarter-finals featured several members of the royal family, including Queen Camilla, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall. Their presence, alongside Kate’s parents, has sparked optimism that Princess Kate herself may grace the tournament to present the trophies to the winners.

Princess Kate, 42, has been a regular at Wimbledon since marrying Prince William in 2011. However, she has not made any public appearances this summer as she continues to prioritise her health in private.

Sitting in the front row of the royal box on July 4, Princess Kate’s parents were alongside Debbie Jevans, president of the All England Club. Earlier in June, Jevans told Telegraph Sport that organizers would give the Princess of Wales maximum flexibility over the possibility of presenting trophies while she is undergoing cancer treatment.

In 2016, Queen Elizabeth named Kate patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, an honour that includes presenting awards to champions. Jevans expressed hope that Princess Kate would be able to fulfil the role, stressing that her health and recovery were of the utmost importance.

Kate’s only public appearance this year was at Trooping the Colour on June 15. She recently paid tribute to Andy Murray on social media as the tennis star wrapped up his career at Wimbledon.
