Joe Keery Biography
Joe Keery is an American actor and musician who is famous for his role as Steven Harrington in Stranger Things (2016–present). He is also known for his role in Free Guy (2021) where he played Walter “Keyes” McKeyes. As a musician, he releases music under the stage name Djo. In addition to this, Keery is a former member of the psychedelic rock band Post Animal.
He grew up in Newburyport, attended River Valley Charter School and later attended Newburyport High School. At a young age she participated in Theater in the Open, a performing arts camp at Maudslay State Park. However, she started acting in high school. He later continued his studies at the School of Theater at DePaul University graduating in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting.
After graduating, he went on over 100 auditions before landing the lead role in Stranger Things in 2016. Prior to his role in Stranger Things, he had roles in Empire and Chicago Fire. In August 2022, he was cast as Gator Tillman in Fargo Season 5.
As a musician, he goes by the stage name Djo. In his early 20s, he released music under the name “Cool Cool Cool”. He was the guitarist and drummer for the Chicago-based garage and psych rock band Post Animal. They released their debut album in October 2015. Their second album, When I Think Of You In A Castle, was released in April 2018.
On 19 July 2019, under the name Djo, Keery released his first single “Roddy”. A second single was released on August 9, 2019, titled “Chateau (Feel Alright)”. Recently, in 2022, he took part in a summer music festival tour and his album Decide was announced in June 2022, along with the release of his first single ‘Change’.
