Jemima Kirke is a famous British-American actress, artist and director who rose to fame playing the role of Johannson in a famous HBO series called Girls. She is also known for her film debut in a famous short film called Smile for the Camera. Kirke’s other famous roles are in films and TV shows such as Tiny Furniture, Untogether, Sylvie’s Love, Ax Cop and a guest voice role on The Simpsons.
Kirke was born in London to British natives who moved to New York when she was just five years old. As such, she grew up in America in a working-class environment alongside her two sisters. Jemima finished high school in her hometown of New York. She then received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2008. In 2011, Kirke created and curated her own art exhibit titled A Brief History under the Skylight Projects. She even hosted her own show titled Sargeanst from 2017 to 2018.
Jemima made her acting debut playing a supporting role in Tiny Future. She was invited to appear alongside her friends as a favor in the film by the producer, Dunham. As such, Kirke never received any payment for the film’s success. Nevertheless, she reunited with Dunham and the two worked together on HBO’s Girls. Kirke played the role of Johannson in what eventually became her breakout role. She then appeared in TV shows and movies such as Ava’s Possessions and The Little Hours. Kirke’s most recent roles are in TV shows such as Conversations with Friends (2022), Sex Education (2021) and High Maintenance (2019).
