Biography of Gordon Ramsay
Gordon Ramsey is a famous Scottish chef, restaurateur, writer and television personality. He has opened restaurants all over the world and is famous for hosting popular TV shows such as “Hell’s Kitchen” and “MasterChef”.
At a young age, Gordon was interested in athletics. However, he soon left the promising caretaker to become a famous chef in London. In the early 200’s, Ramsay made his mark on British television as the idiosyncratic host of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen. These son shows made a transition to the American public. Since its inception, the award-winning chef has expanded his brand through programs such as MasterChef and Hotel Hell, opening more restaurants around the world.
Ramsay was born in Johnstone, Scotland and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, England after relocating with his family at the age of five. His first passion was football where he dreamed of becoming a professional athlete. At the age of 15, Gordon joined the Glasgow Rangers, a professional club.

After completing his studies, Ramsay came under the guidance of some of Europe’s top chefs. He did an internship with Marco Pierre White at Harvey’s in London, worked for Albert Roux at Le Gavroche and then worked under master chefs Joel Robuchon and Guy Savoy in France.
In 1993, Gordon became the head chef of the new Aubergine in London. After two years at the restaurant, Ramsay earned a two-star rating from Michelin. Ramsay was even more credited in 195, when he was awarded the Newcomer of the Year award at the famous Catey Awards.
When the restaurant was in financial crisis, Gordon left Aubergine in 1998 and opened his own restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsey in London. Within a short time, the restaurant received a three-star rating from Michelin. In the following years, Ramsey opened many new restaurants such as Petrus, Verre in Dubai and a second Gordon Ramsey in London.
In 2000, Ramsay was named Chef of the Year at the Catey Awards. In addition, he received an Independent Restaurant of the Year award in 2006. In 2006, he moved the restaurant business to the United States, opening the first two restaurants in London, New York. Since then, Gordon has expanded its reach around the world, bringing its brand to countries such as South Africa, Canada and Australia.

Ramsay began appearing on television in 1996 when he appeared as a judge on the BBC’s competing cooking show MasterChef. In 1999, Gordon was at the center of a British mini-documentary series, Boiling Point. The documentary followed the life of his career as he opened his first restaurant. The success of the documentary led to that. mini series, Beyond Boiling Point in 2000.
In 2004, Ramsay was appointed to host two programs. At Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, and at Hell’s Kitchen. For the first, Gordon tried to turn down falling restaurants while in the second he ran a cooking competition among 10 celebrities, where the audience voted for the contestants.
In May 2005, Gordon had an American version of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX, a program that put would-be restaurants in attendance to watch the show’s presenter. Ramsay also ran another gastronomic series in the UK called The F Word.
Gordon’s strong ratings in the United States opened the door for another version of Kitchen Nightmares in September 2007. It also led to the American production of MasterChef (2010), MasterChef Junior (2013). Gordon was in charge of both programs as the lead judge. In 2012, he presented another show, a variation of the “save a failed establishment” theme with Hotel Hell.
