Career Charles Hoskinson
Charles left a consulting firm to start a project called the Bitcoin Education Project in 2013. According to Hoskinson, limited supply makes Bitcoin a digital form of gold. In late 2013, he joined the founding team of Ethereum as one of the five original inspirers with Vitalik Buterin.
For some time, Charles worked at Ethereum as CEO. In 2014, Buterin removed Hoskinson from Ethereum following a dispute over whether the project should be commercial (Hoskinson’s view) or non-profit (Buterin’s view).
Hoskinson and former Ethereum colleague Jeremy Wood later founded IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong), an engineering and research company that manufactures cryptocurrencies and blockchains, in late 2014.
IOHK’s main project is Cardano, a public blockchain and smart contract platform that hosts the ADA cryptocurrency. Charles did not seek venture capital for Cardano, saying he was opposed to blockchain principles, but also said venture capital involvement could lead to oversight of a project. He spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2020, where he said the blockchain could ultimately bring about social change.
