Steve Staeger is an Emmy Award-winning journalist best known as a reporter and correspondent for KUSA 9 News based in Denver, Colorado. He joined the station in March 2014 after working as chief reporter for WCIA News for nearly four years. Steve even worked as an associate producer behind the scenes for WDIV News in Detroit for a year before making his on-screen debut as a reporter. His most prominent and popular news stories include the 2012 Republican and Democratic National Conventions and he traveled to Tampa, Florida and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Steiger was born and raised in the small suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, United States. He grew up as a very active and happy child who developed his passion for journalism at a very young age. Steve finished high school in his hometown. He then enrolled at the University of Auckland and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and journalism after four years.
Steve began his career as a journalist hosting various shows for WXOU Radio while still in college. At WDIV, Steve decided to work as a part-time producer and reporter for the station for almost a year. He gained experience writing broadcast copy and editing various videos on WDIV’s Morning Newscasts.
In 2012, Staeger left WDIV News and decided to make his debut as a reporter for Springfield Champaign-based WCIA News. He earned national recognition for his coverage of relevant news such as the corruption trial and retrial of former Illinois Gov. Bond Blagojevich and the 2012 Republican and Democratic National Conventions, all for WCIA News. Steve left WCIA and joined KUSA 9 News in 2014.
