Biography of Stacey Sager
Stacey Sager is an American Emmy Award-winning journalist currently working for Channel 7 Eyewitness News as a reporter since 1996. Prior to WABC-TV, Stacey worked as a reporter at WNEP-TV in Scranton, Pennsylvania and WJAR -TV in Providence, Rhode Island.
Since joining the WABC-TV team, Sager has covered a wide range of local, national and international stories, including the Bush-Gore presidential race, the war in Kosovo, al-Qaeda prisoners in Cuba, the execution of Timothy McVeigh, the death of JFK junior, the crash of TWA flight 800 and the horrific attacks of 9/11.
After the 9/11 attacks, Sager quickly realized how difficult and personal her career was after spending hours with families desperately searching for loved ones killed in the World Trade Center. The events of the attack were something he never thought he would ever see as a journalist or as a human being.
A New York native, Stacey grew up and studied in Boston, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., then attended Tufts Universityin political science, and later earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Medill School of Northwestern University.
Sager’s first on-air job was at a small station in Bangor, Maine. He then went on to report at WNEP-TV in Scranton, Pennsylvania and WJAR-TV in Providence, Rhode Island.
Throughout her career, Stacey has received multiple Emmy nominations and was awarded the statue for her coverage of the 2007 steam explosion in midtown Manhattan. Sager and her crew were among the first to arrive and remained on the scene for hours during the live coverage. He also received the Prestigious Michael P. Metcalf Media Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
