The Princess of Wales played a significant role in her brother-in-law’s intimate exploration of her life as a royal, which was published earlier this year. For years, all three, alongside Prince William, united to defend causes that were dear to them. However, a natural distance has emerged since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away from their royal duties. Author Valentine Low says Kate was taken aback by comments made in Prince Harry’s memoir, but remains steadfast in her commitment not to allow his remarks to impact her personal and royal life.
Low suggests that Kate is a person of considerable grace and initially describes her almost as a sister to Prince Harry. They were very close and got along exceptionally well. However, the picture he paints later in the book is of someone who seems rather distant and cool towards Meghan. Therefore, it is completely understandable that she might feel hurt by this.
During a Ted Chat for Daily Kinsey creator Scoffield, Low noted that the couple chose to remain silent regarding Prince Harry’s allegations. Instead, they chose to focus on their work. Low adds, “But she and William have both done their best not to react, and they’ve definitely told their staff not to give briefings about what they think of the book and the Netflix series. I’m Sure, they’re smart inside, but they keep working, and I think it’s paid off.”
Prince Harry once called the Princess of Wales “the sister I never had and always wanted” and previous chapters of his memoir had described her as a good match for his brother, noting how happy they visibly made each other. However, his tone changed later in the memoir, echoing previous interviews he and Meghan Markle gave after leaving the royal family. In these interviews, they characterized Kate as a rather rigid figure.
Discussing dinner with William and his sister-in-law, Prince Harry noticed the marked difference in the way the two women dressed, suggesting this could have caused discord. As the Duchess warmly welcomed them to their Nottingham Cottage home, Kate was dressed to the nines.
