Saira Anwer Biography
Saira Anwer is an American, two-time Emmy Award-nominated journalist working as an anchor and reporter at WPLG, Local 10 News, Miami, Florida. Anwer earned Emmy nominations for her coverage of Janesville, Wisconsin, and a feature on teachers at a unique school in a children’s hospital. In addition, she also received an award from the Wisconsin Association of Broadcasters for excellence in live reporting.
Anwer anchored at WPSDLocal 6 for a two-month stint before moving to WQAD-TV. She interned at WQAD-TV for 3 months until July 2011. Saira left the station and joined 8th Grade Language Arts/ TFA Corps Member, Dallas, Fort Worth Area, as a teacher. He taught for a period of two years and one month until June 2014.
Saira began her career in Minot, North Dakota at KMOT Gray Television as an anchor and reporter on the 6 pm news. and at 10 p.m. He cited the oil spill and political issues on North Dakota’s Native American reservations. In addition, he founded and led a weekly medical section. Anwer left the station in January 2016. Immediately, she joined WMTV NBC 15, Madison, Wisconsin, as a reporter and anchor. Saira anchored weekend evening newscasts on NBC 15 and CW News from 9 to July 2018. She then joined WPLG as a television news reporter, covering breaking news throughout South Florida.
Anwer is happy to be in South Florida and loves experiencing the rich diversity, culture, as well as the delicious food. Plus, he’s a fan of the SoFlo climate and doesn’t miss the brutally cold Midwest winters. In Saira’s free time, she enjoys tennis, musical theatre, reading and watching cooking shows.
Anwer attended Galesburg High School and graduated in 2008. He later joined the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in Spanish. Saira is a proud member of Delta Zeta sorority. Immediately after graduation, she joined the Teach For America corps and spent a two-year period teaching language arts and reading to at-risk eighth graders from Dallas.
