While divorces are generally considered sad times, for a celebrity, it was an exciting experience. Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise got married after meeting on the set of Days of Thunder in 1990.
In 2001, Cruise filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” Although the reasons for their split are unknown, Kidman has commented on feeling overshadowed by Cruise’s fame during their marriage.
Kidman said her marriage to Cruise helped her survive in the entertainment industry, but she also suffered two miscarriages during their marriage. The Church of Scientology was cited as another contributing factor to their split, with the church allegedly bullying Cruise into divorcing Kidman due to his father’s profession as a psychologist.
Kidman has since found love with country singer Keith Urban, and they have two children together. Her career has also exploded since her divorce from Cruise, winning numerous awards for her roles in films such as Moulin Rouge and Hours. Cruise later married actress Katie Holmes and they share a daughter named Suri.
Despite their divorce, Kidman said she will never speak ill of their marriage out of respect for Cruise.
