Mike Nelson Biography
Mike Nelson is an American meteorologist who works as the chief meteorologist at Denver 7 News in Denver, Colorado. He joined the Denver 7 in June 2004 and is currently an eighteen-time Emmy Award winner. He has spent 40 years forecasting the weather on television with 25 of those years forecasting only in Colorado.
In addition, he began working for a private weather consulting firm based in Madison, Weather Central. Later in 1979, he was Executive Vice President of Weather Central where he oversaw a staff of 14 meteorologists. He collaborated with Terry Kelly and devised one of the first computer weather graphics systems for television.
In 1982, he trained legendary Denver meteorologist Stormy Rothman on the system after bringing it to Colorado. Later, he worked as chief meteorologist in St. Louis, Missouri. It also approved candidates to receive the AMS Seal of Television Weather-casting. This was because he was a member of the Meteorological Council of the American Meteorological Society.
Additionally, Mike was recognized in 2001 as Citizen of the Year by the Colorado Association of Broadcasters. Additionally, he attended the University of Wisconsin where he attended and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology
