Biography of Meredith Vieira
Meredith Vieira is an American journalist and television personality. She is best known as the original host of the daytime talk show The View (1997–2006), an ABC talk show that ran from 1997 to 2006. Vieira later co-anchored the NBC News morning news program, Today from 2006 – 2011.

Meredith attended the Lincoln School, an all-girls Quaker offshoot of the Moses Brown School in Providence, Rhode Island. After graduating in 1971, Vieira joined Tufts University to pursue a degree in English and graduated in 1975.

Vieira began her career as a broadcaster for WORC radio in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1975. At WORC, she anchored the evening drive-in news during the BJ Dean Show. Her television debut began at WJAR-TV where she worked as a local reporter and anchor. Eventually, she joined the WCBS-TV newsroom in New York, where she worked as an investigative reporter from 1979 to 1982.
However, she first gained national recognition as a CBS reporter based in the Chicago bureau between 1982 and 1984. Later, she worked as a correspondent for national newsmagazine broadcasts. West 57th and 60 minutes. Her last assignment at CBS was as co-anchor of the CBS Morning News between 1992 and 1993.
The following year, she initially moved to the ABC as one of six regular correspondents for the news-magazine show Turing Point (1994–99). At the same time, Meredith hosted the Lifetime Network’s Intimate Portrait which debuted on January 3, 1995, until August 28, 2004.
She also served as the original host and co-host of The View, an ABC daytime show that debuted on August 11, 1997 and ended on June 9, 2006.
