Matt Baker is a British television presenter who co-hosted the children’s television show Blue Peter with Alex Jones from 1999 to 2006, BBC One’s Countryfile since 2009 and The One Show from 2011 to 2020. During his seven years on Blue Peter, he won the BAFTAs’ Best Child Presenter title two years in a row. In his junior years he was a British gymnast and champion of sports acrobatics. He had to give up at the age of 14 because of anemia. He was also a gymnastics commentator for BBC coverage of the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. He was a participant in Strictly Come Dancing 2010. He won second place with his dance partner, professional ballroom dancer Aliona Vilani. He has been the current presenter of ‘Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales’ on Channel 4 since 2021. He was an avid dancer from the age of 5 and began competing as a gymnast while at school. He continued his education at Belmont Comprehensive School in Durham and was an aspiring gymnast but had to give up after being diagnosed with anemia at the age of 14. Next, he earned high school diplomas in drama, biology and physical education at the Durham Sixth Forms Centre. In the late 1990s, while a drama student at Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh, he worked as an entertainer and with a 1970s comedy disco dance revival show called ‘Disco Inferno’ which toured northern England.

  • During his seven years with Blue Peter, he won two BAFTAs for Best Children’s Presenter and a Royal Television Society award two years in a row.
