Louis Theroux is a British-American documentary filmmaker, journalist, broadcaster and writer who has received two British Academy Television Awards and a Royal Television Society Television Award. Louis moved to the United States after graduating from Oxford University and worked as a reporter for Metro Silicon Valley and Spy.
He started his TV career as an eccentric presenter on Michael Moore’s TV Nation and later went on to host his own documentaries such as Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends, When Louis Met… and many BBC Two specials. His first job as a journalist was at Metro Silicon Valley, a free alternative weekly newspaper in San Jose, California.

Louis was born to his parents in Singapore. He is the proud son of English mother Anne (née Castle) and American travel writer and novelist Paul Theroux. Louis’ paternal grandmother, Anne Dittami, was an Italian-American grammar school teacher, and his grandfather, Albert Eugène Theroux, worked for the American company Leather Oak as a French-Canadian salesman.
Louis is the nephew of novelists Alexander and Peter Theroux. Marcel, Louis’ older brother, is a writer and TV presenter. She also has an actor and screenwriter cousin, Justin Theroux. He moved to England with his family when he was one year old and grew up in London.

Justin was in a 14-year relationship with stylist and costume designer Heidi Bivens until 2011. He started dating actress Jennifer Aniston in 2011 after working with her on the film Wanderlust. They became engaged in August 2012 and married on August 5, 2015. On February 15, 2018, Justin and Aniston revealed that they had separated in late 2017.
