Eric Sorensen is a renowned American meteorologist and climate communicator who works hard to put weather and climate change into context. He has been a senior meteorologist for WQAD-TV since July 2014.

He was previously chief meteorologist at WREX-TV from September 2006 to July 2014. Before that he worked as morning meteorologist for WREX TV from 2003 to September 2006. He also worked as morning meteorologist at KLTV.

After nearly five years in Texas, Eric was called home to work for WREX-TV, the station his family watched as a child. Eric worked on the morning news for a few years before becoming chief meteorologist. Eric spoke to nearly 10,000 students about the power of extreme storms while working in Rockford. During the 2008 flood, Eric and his brother Mike organized a relief operation, transporting critical goods from the Rockford Airport to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

It has also been nominated for three regional Emmy Awards and received the Illinois Broadcasters Association’s Silver Dome Award for Broadcast Excellence. Because of his work in climate change communication, he is also a member of the Society for Environmental Journalism. He also serves on the board of Clock, Inc., the Quad City’s only LGBTQ resource center.
