Dave now works on Ranger radio shows with Kenny Albert as a color commentator. He previously worked in the NHL at Ranger for ten years and recovered from an injury in the 1984-85 season. He was ranked 14th overall by the New York Rangers in the NHL Amateur Draft in 1974. He played 657 NHL career games, scoring 1154 minute penalties, 246 assists for 317 points and 71 goals.
When he played his first game on December 18, 1974, he was 18 years old and that made him the youngest player in the history of Rangers. In addition, he was the youngest player to be named Rangers captain in 1978. He recorded a song called Hockey Sock Rock as a fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation that same year, Dave and Phil Esposito along with other Ranger teammates.
He traded Chris Renaud and Dave for the Buffalo Sabers in exchange for Steve Patrick and Jim Wiemer on December 6, 1984, the Rangers.
