Brian Abel Career
In January 2006, Brian got his first taste of journalism when he was first hired at WIDR FM as a news anchor. However, after anchoring the station for six months, Abel left and moved to North Dakota. He was employed by WDAY from October 2013 to April 2015 as a news anchor and reporter. Brian also only worked for seven months at WDAZ as a news anchor before joining KSHB-TV in April 2015.
He worked for two years at KSHB before joining WXYZ-TV, where he continues to serve today. Abel was first hired as a news reporter, though four years later he was promoted to weekend afternoon anchor. After working in this position for almost three years, Brian was reassigned as the station’s evening anchor.
During his journalism career, Brian has covered a variety of stories including the arson that claimed the lives of two firefighters, the death of a young teenager on the nation’s tallest water slide, the Olathe bar triple shooting, and the 2016 election among others. In addition, Abel has conducted one-on-one interviews with Senator Bernie Sanders, President Joe Biden and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
