Ari Shafir Biography
Ari David Shaffir is an American comedian, podcaster, actor, writer and producer. He currently hosts and produces the Skeptic Tank podcast, as well as co-hosting Punch Drunk Sports with Jayson Thibault and Sam Tripoli. Additionally, Ari is also a frequent guest on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast alongside Mark Normand and Shane Gillis. He was born and raised in New York, United States.
Safir completed his high school in Rockville, Maryland and then attended Yeshiva University in New York where he studied for two years. After that, he transferred to the University of Maryland where he graduated with a degree in English literature. During his tenure at the University, he played on the University’s NCAA golf team where he served as the lowest ranked NCAA athlete. Shortly after college, he made his stage debut at an open mic night at a “sports comedy venue in Northern Virginia.”
After that, he moved to Los Angeles to improve his chances of success as a stand-up comedian. Later, he appeared on television comedy shows and comedians on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. In 2012, he went bicoastal, living in both Los Angeles and New York before becoming a full-time New York resident. His popularity grew when his video series called The Amazing Racist went viral. Additionally, he toured with other comedians such as Joey Diaz, Duncan Trussell, Tom Segura, Brian Redban and Joe Rogan.
Shaffir then appeared at the Montreal Comedy Festival as part of The Nasty Show. In addition, he hosted, created and produced a live show This Is Not Happening, alongside Eric Abrams. Ari also performed on the 3rd episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, his first of 44 appearances on the show. In addition, he also has a podcast called Skeptic Tank where he invites guests and discusses various topics such as suicide, rape, prison and mental health.
He also co-hosts another podcast called Punch Drunk Sports with fellow comedians Sam Tripoli and Jayson Thibault. After that, he released his first stand-up album Revenge for the Holocaust which became the number one comedy album on both Itunes and Amazon. After that, he performed his first TV special, Passive Aggressive, for Chill.com. Additionally, the second tribute arrived in 2015 titled Paid Regular, which premiered on Comedy Central the same week This is Not Happening premiered.
Two years later, Shaffir released another special, Double Negative on Netflix, before later touring with his show Ari Shaffir: Jew, which is currently available on YouTube. Apart from his broadcasting, Shaffir has also appeared in several films such as The Fax, Reeling in Reality, Pauly Shore’s Natural Born Komics and Keeping Up with the Joneses. He has also appeared in some commercials for Coke Zero, Subway, Domino’s and Bud Light.
