Matos started his music training at the age of ten, when his parents gave him his first piano. He used to gather with his friends as a teenager to listen to their favorite bands. Matos, Luis Maruti and Ricardo Confessori left Agra in 2000 over a dispute with guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and Kiko Loureiro over the band’s management. Matos continued with Mariutti and Confessori, and formed the band Shaman with his brother Mariutti Hugo on guitar. The song “Fairy Tale”, which appeared in the Brazilian soap series Beijo do Vampiro, collapsed the band in fame. Ritual, their debut album, sold over 200,000 copies worldwide in its first year, creating a tour of 150 shows around the world and a DVD called Ritualive.
Prior to his death, Matos continued his solo career with the Mariutti brothers, but often stated that calling it a solo career was wrong. was a band with his name on it, and everyone chose him because of his worldwide fame and the repeated departure from previous bands.
