Career Ken Daneyko
In 1982, he was selected by The National Hockey League Entry Draft in the first round, which was the New Jersey Devils’ second choice after moving from Colorado. Prior to the draft he played in the Junior Hockey League for many teams including the Seattle Breakers, Saskatchewan Junior, Great Falls Americans and Yorkton Terriers. He was hired by the Devils during the 1983-84 season.
Unfortunately, he broke his fork in a game against the Hartford Wheelers and had to lose more than 40 games. After recovering, he was appointed to the WHL Kamloops Junior Oilers, where he played for the rest of the season. While a professional hockey player, he holds the record for 255 consecutive regular season games without scoring and has scored more than 2,200 minutes of penalties. He also scored six goals and 15 assists along the way for a 21-point season in the 1989-90 season.
Along with a former Canadian professional hockey player named Scott Stevens, Ken was part of the Devils’ tough defensive core that won the 1994–95, 1999–2000 and 2002–03 Stanley Cups. The Devils withdrew Ken’s uniform number 3 on March 24, 2006, making him the second recipient of the award following the departure of his former teammate Scott Stevens No. 4 on 3 February 2006.
