Ariana Grande-Butera is an American songwriter, singer and actress, known for her role as Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon series Victorious and Sam and Cat. Two Grammy Awards, one Brit Award, two Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, nine MTV Video Music Awards and 27 Guinness World Records have been awarded to her during her career.
At a young age she performed at the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theater in the musical Annie. Ariana also starred in the musicals The Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast.
In 2009, Butera participated in the TV show Victorious together Elizabeth Gillies. In the show, set in a performing arts high school, she played the adorably dim-witted ‘Cat Valentine’.
After the first season of Victorious ended, Ariana wanted to focus on her music career and began working on her debut album in August 2010. On the show, she has also been linked to Daniella Monet.
While recording Victorious, Grande made several recordings of herself singing covers of songs by Adele, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey and uploaded them to YouTube.
Butera released her first single, “Put Your Hearts Up,” in December 2011. Grande eventually disowned the track for its bright pop sound, saying she wasn’t interested in recording that kind of music. The star played Amanda Benson in Swindle, a 2013 Nickelodeon movie. Meanwhile, Nickelodeon created Sam & Cat, an iCarly and Victorious spin-off starring Jennette McCurdy and Ariana.
She appeared alongside Miranda Cosgrove in an episode of iCarly titled “iParty with Victorious” in 2011.
