Biography of Andrew Revkin

Andrew Revkin is an American Environmental Journalist, author and educator known for his work as a reporter for the New York Times and his previous work with the National Geographic Society. He has also become more popular for writing about wide-ranging subjects and issues such as the 2004 tsunami and the Amazon rainforest. Andrew currently serves as director and CEO of the popular Communication and Sustainability Initiative at The Earth Institute of Columbia University.

Revkin was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Rhode Island, New York. He attended and finished his studies at the High School in his hometown. He then entered a private high school and graduated with a good GPA. Eventually, Andrew graduated with a degree in Biology from Brown University. He then continued his studies and received his Masters in Journalism and Communications from Columbia University.

Revkin officially began his career as a senior writer and editor for Discover magazine and Science Digest in 1994. From there, he was able to cover environmental and climate change reports for The New York Times from the year 1995 to 2009. time submitting stories from the North Pole for the NYT until his official departure. In 2010, Revkin joined Pace University as a Senior Fellow leading the Environmental Understanding group within Applied Environmental Studies. Andrew subsequently wrote several books based on weather, climate and global warming.

His first book The Burning Season published in 1994 was made into an award winning film starring Raul Julia and directed by John Frankenheimer. Revkin also has several awards, including honorary membership of Sigma Xi, the American Geophysical Union, and the National Academy of Sciences for his work in National Geographic and The New York Times.
