He also gained national recognition playing Ralph Tresvant on a BET Network original series called The New Edition Story. Smith also played the role of Marcus Simms in a 2014 film titled Earth to Echo. His other famous supporting roles are in movies and TV series like Detroit (2017), Judas and the Black Messiah (2021), Let it Shine (2012) and How To Rock (2012) among others.
Smith was born in the suburbs of Saginaw, Michigan but grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents moved to Atlanta when Smith was just eight years old. This is where his passion for acting and music really grew. Algee’s father is also a musician who has influenced Smith’s sound since he was a little boy. As such, he became deeply involved in art and music and even completed his first rap reading and writing at the age of nine. Smith even landed several minor roles in television series while being homeschooled.
