This scene from Margot Robbie’s Wolf of Wall Street wasn’t so sexy (for her)
In a recent interview, Margot Robbie spoke about the provocative and awkward scene in Scorsese’s film.
Surely you know actress Margot Robbie, either because of the most memorable part of the DC Comics movie Suicide Squad, because her Harley Queen stole the hearts of millions and was one of the most used costumes on Halloween this year. Or her portrayal of the (sometimes) infamous ice skater Tonya Harding, where her performance earned her a Best Actress Oscar nomination. But there’s one role in particular that put her on the Hollywood star map.
In The Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie played the beautiful and glamorous wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, “Jordan Belfort.” And as you surely know, in this Oscar-nominated film directed by the great Martin Scorsese, there are some scenes in which the actress had to dress in lingerie and deliver a performance that, in addition to the pleasure and eroticism shown on-screen filming was a bit awkward for her.
For those who haven’t seen the movie, the scene shows Robbie seducing DiCaprio in true Basic Instinct style, touching himself and calling the actor’s character “dad.” Years after filming it, in a recent interview he decided to talk about the filming of the already famous scene: “You don’t realize when you watch the film, but in reality we were in a very small room with 30 the crew members moved around me. around. All men,” she told Porter. “And for 17 hours I had to pretend he was touching me. It’s weird and you have to let go of the shame, the feeling of ridicule and fully commit,” she added.
And it was, in fact, this scene that helped Robbie land the role for her, as she impressed Scorsese by slapping DiCaprio during the audition instead of kissing him. Speaking of the audition, in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People issue, Scorsese praised Margot for her work, saying, “She landed her role in The Wolf of Wall Street when we first met by giving DiCaprio a huge slap.” ”.
Likewise, he recognized the importance of the #MeToo movement to raise awareness about sexual harassment: “I’m in my twenties, I have studies, I have travelled, I have worked, I have my own business and I didn’t know what that was. It’s crazy. I didn’t know you could say, “I was sexually harassed,” without anyone touching you, that you could say, “That’s not It’s not right. I had no idea,” he admitted. “Now I know what it is because I’ve done research on what sexual harassment is, like being discriminated against because of your job or financially.” Similarly, he said she had experienced this type of gender-based violence “on different levels and at different times in her life,” but not in the film industry .
Prior to his performance on The Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie was a cast member of Neighbors and had played a handful of low-key roles on television. Today, she is one of the most recognized actresses in the world and one of the most talented, which is why we can’t wait to see her in future projects like in the new Quentin Tarantino film where she will play the ’60s actress Sharon Tate called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, arriving July 26.
