According to a recent report, Prince Harry will attend the coronation of his father, King Charles III, without his wife Meghan Markle.
Despite serving in the military for a decade and serving two tours in Afghanistan, Harry was not allowed to wear his military uniform to the event.
Instead, he is expected to wear a morning suit, in line with royal protocol which prohibits non-working members of the royal family from wearing military uniforms on official state occasions.
Harry and Meghan announced their intention to step down as senior royals in January 2020 and have since moved to the United States. As a non-working member of the Royal Family, Harry was initially not allowed to wear his military uniform at Queen Elizabeth II’s September funeral.
However, he was eventually allowed to wear his uniform as he watched over the late monarch’s coffin alongside the Prince of Wales and Her Majesty’s six other grandchildren at the request of King Charles III.
While Harry apparently made no specific requests regarding his outfit for the coronation, he is expected to attend the event alone as Meghan and their two children will be staying in California.
The coronation is expected to be a more low-key affair than the Queen’s in 1953, with a reduced guest list and a more relaxed dress code. King Charles III would consider wearing his military uniform instead of the traditionally opulent robe associated with the coronation ceremony.
Harry’s older brother Prince William is also expected to wear his military uniform for the event.
