According to royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of ‘misappropriating’ Princess Diana’s legacy.
In recent appearances, Harry has frequently compared his wife to his late mother, citing similarities in their personalities and character traits.
However, Schofield believes the couple are “hiding behind” Diana’s legacy and that William may be trying to reclaim his mother’s memory.
During an appearance on TalkTV, Schofield said Harry and Meghan had “almost hijacked Princess Diana’s legacy” and were using her as a shield.
She also noted that Prince William spoke more about his mother before the coronation, suggesting he too may be feeling a sense of betrayal.
“I think there’s a deep betrayal felt here,” Schofield said, adding that she was okay with William’s decision to walk away from his brother until trust is restored.
In their docuseries, Harry & Meghan, Harry shared that Meghan has many similar qualities to her mother, including compassion, empathy and confidence.
He also defended his decision to break with the royal family, saying he did so to protect his family and prevent history from repeating itself.
While opinions on the couple’s actions may differ, it’s clear that Diana’s memory remains a powerful force within the royal family.
