You can never tell Penelope Cruz going to be typed, as in her next film, she plays a buttoned up missionary.

But for whoever is currently out, she strips down – although in this photoshoot for Esquire’s November issue, her modesty is maintained by a blue velvet drape.

Cruz, 43, stars as austere evangelist Pilar Estravados in the upcoming adaptation of Agatha Christie’s 1934 novel Murder On The Orient Express.

Playing in an all-star cast that includes Kenneth Branagh, she’s a primal and proper cardigan-wearing matron in the film, which is out next month.

However, the Spanish star is also promoting her current film Loving Pablo – in which she co-stars with husband Javier Bardem.

She talked about stripping at 18 in her first film with Javier, the 1992 comedy-drama Jamon Jamon.

When asked if nudity deterred her from acting, she replied, “I thought, ‘there’s a character there, there’s a style, the material is really good.

“Of course, I wasn’t looking forward to these
scenes but I did. Everyone was really respectful, aware that I was 18.

“I remember the last day of filming, I was crying and saying, ‘What if I never shoot a movie again? The feeling was devastating. ‘

It comes after the Spanish siren revealed she went through a “profound change” when she welcomed her first child with actor Javier Bardem seven years ago.

Now she cares less about what people think of her, the 43-year-old beauty told longtime friend Gwyneth Paltrow in a chat for Interview magazine.

Paltrow and Cruz worked together on the 2007 film The Good Night and remained close. Cruz said that when she first met Paltrow, they immediately bonded.

“We were alone and talking about our deepest secrets, as if we had known each other for 20 years,” the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides star said.

“And even though we live so far away and don’t spend enough time together, when I see you, it feels like yesterday.”

And the Volver actress said she’s still impressed with Paltrow’s great cook.

“When you cook, it’s like I’m eating in the best restaurant in the world.

“And you do it with such ease, like, ‘Oh, I’m just going to put this gigantic chicken that has 25 different flavors in the oven — I’ve been working on it for five hours.
