Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman has given insight into her marriage and divorce from actor Tom Cruise. Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, for its upcoming October issue, Nicole spoke of the huge media scrutiny their relationship garnered in the 1990s.
Nicole and Tom met on the set of their 1990 film Days of Thunder and married just six months after the film was released. They had been together for over a decade and even adopted two children. However, they separated in 2001.
She said her acting career has been overshadowed by the focus on her personal life and marriage. She blames the media.
She said: “I was young. I think I offered it? Maybe I got a little more nervous, but I always try to be as open as possible. I just prefer to live in the world that way.”
She added, “I’m wary at times, and I’ve been hurt, but at the same time, I much prefer a warm approach to a thorny closure approach.” She added that the episode left her “open” to other experiences, such as when she finally met her husband, country singer Keith Urban.
“My husband, Keith, says when he met me he was like, ‘How’s your heart?’ And I apparently replied, ‘Open,'” she said.
Keith and Nicole met in 2005 and he already knew that she would one day become his wife. They now have three children together.
Tom, meanwhile, married Katie Holmes in 2006 after his divorce from Nicole. He had his daughter Suri with her. Katie and Tom also divorced in 2012, reportedly over her association with the Church of Scientology. He has not been seen publicly with his daughter since 2013.
