Michelle Rodriguez threatens to leave the ‘Fast and Furious’ saga for her macho tone

Taking advantage of the sale of “Fast and Furious 8” on digital platforms, Michelle Rodriguez made a surprising statement in which she threatens to leave the saga. She wrote this on her Instagram account: “I hope they decide to show the women of the franchise some love in the next one, or maybe I just have to say goodbye to a beloved franchise. ”

Rodriguez has played “Letty” in five of the eight films that have so far formed the saga led by Vin Diesel. Interestingly, Letty was left for dead in the fourth installment but was “resurrected” in the following sequel, a move that’s already part of the insanity allowed and applauded by fans of the franchise. What’s strange is that the actress is now asking, in the face of ‘Fast and Furious 9’, for more love for women…

A month ago, Michelle Rodriguez was already expressing her concern about the macho tone of ‘Fast And Furious’. In an interview for her, she said she had a “90s macho vibe” which, while justified at first because it depicted a “violent underworld”, her hope was that the show would evolve. Something that hasn’t happened, she says, for reasons such as success in China, where “the vast majority of the population are boys.”

“At the end of the day, what message are we sending to women? It weighs heavily on me, especially in the male-dominated environment I work in.”

“Fast and Furious 8” (“Le destin des furieux”, 2017) grossed $1,238 million worldwide, becoming the 11th highest-grossing film in history. Maybe I’m being overly suspicious, but I’d bet Rodriguez is pushing for a bigger slice of the pie before signing on for the ninth installment. Either that or she hadn’t seen any movies in the franchise until now. What do you think?
