Malachi Kirby Biography
Malachi Kirby is a British actor and writer who gained notoriety through Roots and the Black Mirror episode “Men Against Fire”. He also won a BAFTS for his performance in Small Axe: Mangrove (2020).
Brought up on the Patmore Estate in Battersea, he attended Southfields Academy. Originally involved in literature, he discovered acting in year nine through a class at Battersea Art Centre. Kirby was then accepted into the Identify School of Acting in 2007.
After his studies he started his career in the theater. At the time he was shortlisted for Outstanding Newcomer at the Evening Standard Theater Awards in 2011. To be specific, this was after appearing in a Mogadishu production. In addition, he appeared in a number of TV shows and films, including a stint in EastEnders, among others.
He landed the role of Darcus Howe in the anthology Small Ax which premiered in 2020 and won the 2021 British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor. In September 2021, it was announced that he would star opposite Delroy Lindo as Mr. Nancy’s sons Charlie and Spider in Anansi Boys.
