Keira Knightley has opened up about the complexities of filming sex scenes, revealing she has clear stipulations about what she’s willing to do in a movie.
The pregnant Pirates of the Caribbean star, 34, is married to musician James Righton – with whom she already has four-year-old daughter Edie.
In a new interview with Whimn, she explained that her attitude towards racy scenes has changed now that she’s in her 30s.
“I think I’m in a position where I can be quite dictatorial about what I’m comfortable with and what I’m not. I’m in a position where I can say yes and no,” said said Knightley.
“I have a contract that is very clear about what I’m ready to do, and with the sex scenes in particular, I have approval for the final cut.
“Generally with the sex scenes, and the way I demand the way they’re done now is that they have to be absolutely specific. You almost have to do them like a dance sequence.’ exactly what we want from this plan. exactly where you kiss. That’s exactly what happens, because that’s how everyone is in control and everyone can feel comfortable.
Earlier this year, the actress opened up about her favorite sx scene to film – her famous date with James McAvoy in Atonement.
“The best sex scene I’ve done on screen is Atonement, on the library,” she told Vulture. “It was both the best sx scene but also (the best) to shoot.”
In his interview with Whimn, Knightley explained that director Joe Wright’s direction made the iconic scene a success.
“It was orchestrated within an inch of his life. It was ‘The foot goes up there, the hand goes down there,’ and it’s a really good sx scene.”
However, now that she is a mother, Knightley has less desire to shoot these kinds of scenes.
In her latest film, The Aftermath, she chose to use a lookalike for her X-rated scenes with Alexander Skarsgard.
“On this movie there was a body double, so it wasn’t me. I was totally comfortable with nudity when I was younger, but after the kid? Hey, I’m really happy with the body. He did exactly what he needed to do
“It’s fine, but now that I’m in my thirties, I don’t want to show it to a circle of guys on set that I don’t know and not a whole audience. So what was really great , is that we had a young woman who was very happy to show it… She was okay with that, so here we go.
