Keegan-Michael Key Biography
Keegan-Michael Key is an American comedian, screenwriter and actor who is set to star in the upcoming film Super Mario 2023. He made his acting debut starring in Get Hell Out of Hamtown Back (1997), Garage: A Rock Saga and joined the cast of Mad TV during its ninth season in 2004., Keegan and his Mad TV co-star Jordan Peele also went on to star in their own show Key & Peele on Comedy Central from 2012 to 2015.
Key was born to mixed parents living in Southfield, Michigan, USA. However, he was abandoned by his biological parents when he was young. As such, Keegan was adopted by his foster parents who worked as social workers based in Detroit. Just like his biological parents, his adoptive mother is a white woman while his father was black.
Keegan completed middle and high school in Detroit. He then joined the University of Detroit Mercy where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater in 1993. Keegan then continued his studies and earned a Master of Fine Arts in Theater from Pennsylvania State University in 1996. he then made his acting debut with an appearance in Get the Hell Out of Hamtown Back. In 2004, Key joined Madd TV and gained notoriety for being cast opposite Jordan Peele’s character.
This attention gave Key and Jordan the opportunity to star in their own sitcom called Key & Peele from 2012 to 2015. He also spent nearly six seasons starring on Mad TV before leaving to star in Key & Peele. Eventually, Key landed major roles in movies like The CW’s Whose Line is It Anyway. He has even appeared in other movies and TV shows like Horrible Bosses 2, Pitch Perfect 2 (2015), Dont Think Twice and Dolemite is my name among others. In 2014, he starred in The Lego Movie and won great acclaim from the producers. These producers have now given Key the chance to star in the upcoming Super Mario 2023 movie.
