Justin Bieber recalls ‘struggling’ in 2018 as paparazzi photos captured him crying

The singer, 25, referred to the footage, where he was seen being comforted by his wife Hailey Bieber, during the latest episode of his YouTube docu-series “justin bieber: Seasons.”

“I remember just wrestling,” he recalled. “I remember feeling emotionally overwhelmed and talking to him, not knowing how to communicate certain things and just feeling a little frustrated. There were a lot of things that happened in my life and it was a time in my life where I was just like, so overwhelmed… being a normal person and
tears.”

He shared that the pressure surrounding his emotions was made even worse due to his celebrity status.

“When I look at things on the internet and people say to me, ‘Justin is upset, why is he upset?’ It’s like they don’t give me permission to be upset,” he added. “I don’t have permission to be human and shed tears, and there are so many people every day who are in conversation with their daughter or their wife or their mother and they break down, but they don’t have no cameras to capture it. People say, ‘Is he okay, is he having a nervous breakdown?’ and I’m just emotional and, you know, I think it’s okay.

Bieber also shared his current strategy for coping with those pressures, a stress management technique that his health coach, Dr. Buzz Mingin, calls “having.”

“Havening is a psychosensory technique that actually increases the feel-good chemicals in your brain on demand,” says Mingin.

“It’s basically like a self-soothing thing,” Hailey added. “Everyone has their own version of shelter without knowing it. It’s like when you’re a little kid and you suck your thumb to soothe yourself. When you start to feel really stressed or just to stay calm, it’s is almost like when you’re a kid and your mom rubs your back to sleep and it’s the best feeling in the world. It’s kind of like that, except you’re doing it for yourself.”
