John Morales is an award-winning American meteorologist who currently serves as the chief meteorologist for NBC 6 since joining the station in 2009. He is the longest-serving meteorologist in South Florida, working as a reassuring television presence for almost three decades.

Morales’ steady character and tropical weather guided South Florida viewers through Hurricanes Andrew, Katrina, Irene, Wilma and most recently Hurricane Irma. In addition, he was recognized with the John Coleman Broadcast Award at the National Tropical Weather Conference for his salvation during the 2017 season.

Morales was born in Schenectady, New York and raised in Puerto Rico. He attended the meteorology program at Cornell University. While in college, he won the student weather forecast competition, rowing for the Cornell Crew, and later worked as a disc rider and sports coach for the WVBR radio station.

After graduating in 1984, he became a civil servant in the US National Weather Service. While there, he made a head start in Puerto Rico prior to his appointment as head of the South American office at the National Center for Environmental Forecasting in Washington.

Morales began his television career at Univision at Station 23, which is owned and operated in Miami. He worked as a chief meteorologist from 1991 to 2002. He then moved to WSCV Telemundo 51, where he worked as a chief meteorologist from 2003 to 2008.
