Biography of Howard Kurtz
Howard Alan Kurtz is a well-known American journalist and author who currently works as the host of the Fox News program Media Buzz and the successor to Fox News Watch. Previously, he served as host of the Cable News Network’s Trusted Sources media analysis show.
Kurtz was born in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School and later enrolled at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he received a BA in Psychology and English in 1974. In addition, he also attended the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. While in college he worked on a student newspaper, the Spectrum, becoming editor in his senior year.
Immediately after graduation, Howard began working for Record in New Jersey. After working for a while, he moved to Washington to work as a reporter for syndicated columnist Jack Anderson. However, he left the station and joined The Washington Star, where he was in charge of the evening paper. After the paper closed in 1981, Kurtz took a position at the Washington Post where he worked until 2010 and then moved. At the Washington Post, he was responsible for handling national affairs correspondent, New York bureau chief and deputy national editor.
Before joining Fox News in 2013, he worked at CNN as host of the weekly program exploring media standards, performance and bias. Kurtz also leads media fairness and objectivity scrutiny, questioning reporters from leading news organizations, including CNN. In addition to that, he also worked at The Daily Beast where he served as the Washington bureau chief for the website, writing about media and politics. His salary has been reported by The Daily Beast to be $600,000 a year.
At Fox, Kurtz works as an anchor who hosts a weekend program and also as a columnist for the FoxNews.com website. On the other hand, he is also the author of Media Madness: Donald Trump, The Press and The War Over the Truth, and five other books such as Inside the Clinton Propaganda Machine which reached No. 2 on the New York Times best-seller list , Spin Cycle, Media Circus, Hot Air and The Fortune Tellers.
