Ryan Spann Biography
Ryan Jamari Spann is an American professional mixed martial artist who currently competes in the Light Heavyweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is also ranked among the top 10 UFC light heavyweights. Previously, Jamari fought for the Legacy Fighting Alliance and was awarded the Light Heavyweight Championship. Before that, he was born and raised in Westwood, Memphis, Tennessee, and began training in martial arts from an early age.
His professional career began in 2013 after registering as Middleweight and Welterweight. He rose to fame after competing in the Legacy Fighting Regional Championship and the Legacy Fighting Alliance where he won the Light Heavyweight Championship. Apart from that, Ryan also participated in Dana White’s Contender Series. In 2017, he fought against Karl Roberson, but was defeated by a first-round knockout. He secured a spot in the second round when he won after defeating Emiliano Sordi and earned a UFC contract.
Additionally, he also faced Luis Henrique at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Anders, where he emerged as the winner of the race. Later on, Spann fought against Antônio Rogério Nogueira and won the fight by knockout in the first round. Apart from that, he also beat Devin Clark at UFC Fight Night: Joanna vs. Waterson. In 2020, he was knocked out in the third round by Sam Alvey at UFC 249. However, Spann was later declared victorious by split decision after facing Johnny Walker at UFC Fight Night 176.

A few months later, he faced Anthony Smith at UFC Fight Night 192 and lost to him in the first round. He then won a Night Bonus award after defeating Ion Cuțelaba at UFC on ESPN 36. After that, he went on to face Dominick Reyes in November 2022 at UFC 281 and emerged victorious after being knocked out in the first round.
As of 2023, he was scheduled to face Nikita Krylovat at UFC Fight Night 220, however, it had to be canceled after Krylov fell ill with a foodborne illness. The fight was postponed and he lost the match via triangle choke in the first round. Additionally, he has a UFC record of 7 wins and 3 losses in the UFC.
